Hume sweet Hume

Well, I know, Summer has started now and it´s time for light dresses, open and airy sandals, walking barefoot on the beach and swimming in the pool. But the beautiful Dutch magazine Seasons (July-August 2010 issue) came up with a great article about the Hume sweet Hume Company. This might be a Winter-theme, but anyway the story is too nice to not bring it to your attention.
The Company is runned by 2 sisters - Jenna and Lizza Hume - who fill the former fish & chips-shop (which is situated on the Orkney Islands in Great Britain) of their parents with wonderful knitted creations. Light Mint, Erin, Denim, Biscuit, Burgundy, Duck Egg, Linnet, Charcoal, Violet, Logansberry, Laurel or Midnight are just a few of the poetic names given to the specific colours of their creations, which remind us of the seaside. Most of the used materials come from Scotland, but for fine wools as Mohair, they find it in Italy. Their trademark: the unique buttons, made of small flints polished by the seawater.

Bags, cushions, jackets, scarfs... you don´t need to travel to the United Kingdom to purchase one of these unique pieces, but you can order from the webshop: Hume sweet Hume.

Rattan furniture & Outdoor living

Danish label Sika-Horsnaes a/s is a merger between the two eldest rattan furniture manufactures in Scandinavia SIKA MØBLER A/S, established in 1950, and HORSNÆS DESIGN A/S established in 1940. Both have been specialised in production and distribution of rattan- and wicker furniture ever since, and until 1992 also with their own production plans in Denmark.

I can easily imagine how perfectly these chairs would fit in our own interior, but also for outside-living on a terrace. The rattan furniture is becoming popular again, since it was out of sight quite a while. The black variants are really nice in combination with some ethnic accessories, as for example the new Africa inspired prints ´Vilmie´ at Ikea...

De Groene Maan B&B

 [City-pictures: found on internet]

[all pictures: De Groene Maan]

When they bought a manor from the 19th century in 2007 the owners of this B&B De Groene Maan (The Green Moon) decided to rebuilt and redesign this house in an ecological way. They chose for the recycling concept and bought only secondhand furniture (except from the beds) for the rooms; you´ll find also sheets and towels made of soja-fiber, nature-based care and cosmetic products, and a breakfast will be served that consists of biological food.
This charming B&B is situated in the beautiful old city of Mechelen/Mechlin/Malines, in between Brussels and Antwerp, which both aren´t far neither. Visitors to Belgium often only visit the main cities like Bruges, Brussels and Antwerp. This is because they don't know that a little bit outside of the beaten track, there are other beautiful historic sites in our country. Mechelen is one of those sites and deserves to be visited!

Bungalow DK

[All pictures: Bungalow]

Beautiful block-print textiles with bright colours are the showpieces of Danish brand Bungalow.

´For thousands of years, craftsmen of India have been making decorative block-printed cottons, enchanting and inspiring others around the world.
Skilled craftsmen stamp the cloth using carved wooden blocks to imprint the designs unto the fabric. Depending on the number of colours and the inticracy of the designs the printer hand stamps the cloth 500-2000 times to complete a set of bedlinen.
The art of block-printing is passed down from generation to generation and to achieve the highest quality we are working with some of the best block-printers in India. We love the charm and vividness of these traditional prints and hope that they will bring joy to your shop or home.
Block-printed textiles are handmade products and the printing process is lengthy and complex. No piece is identical. Small spots and imperfections can occur from the printing process. These are not faults, but reminders of the fact that it is made by hand, and are to be expected´ [Minna Hildebrandt, chief]

But the company not only provides textiles, but also pretty lamps with a fairy touch, steel caddies, all kinds of stationery (notebooks, giftpapers a.s.o), bags & baskets and much more.
