Well, I know, Summer has started now and it´s time for light dresses, open and airy sandals, walking barefoot on the beach and swimming in the pool. But the beautiful Dutch magazine Seasons (July-August 2010 issue) came up with a great article about the Hume sweet Hume Company. This might be a Winter-theme, but anyway the story is too nice to not bring it to your attention.
The Company is runned by 2 sisters - Jenna and Lizza Hume - who fill the former fish & chips-shop (which is situated on the Orkney Islands in Great Britain) of their parents with wonderful knitted creations. Light Mint, Erin, Denim, Biscuit, Burgundy, Duck Egg, Linnet, Charcoal, Violet, Logansberry, Laurel or Midnight are just a few of the poetic names given to the specific colours of their creations, which remind us of the seaside. Most of the used materials come from Scotland, but for fine wools as Mohair, they find it in Italy. Their trademark: the unique buttons, made of small flints polished by the seawater.
Bags, cushions, jackets, scarfs... you don´t need to travel to the United Kingdom to purchase one of these unique pieces, but you can order from the webshop: Hume sweet Hume.
